“Baiṣajyaguru” or “Bhaiṣajyarāja”, the Medicine Buddha, is a slightly enigmatic figure. His mythology goes back to early Buddhism, but his origins are obscure, being perhaps related to texts where the historical Buddha is described as a physician come to cure the ills of the world. “Bhaiṣajya” means: curativeness, healing efficacy; a ceremony performed as a remedy for sickness; any remedy, drug or medicine; the administering of medicines. “Guru” is teacher, “rāja” is king. |
He is depicted as deep blue in colour, dressed in bhikshu's robes, holding his begging bowl in his left hand and with his right hand making the “Varada mudra” (施予印). “Varada” means “granting wishes, conferring a boon, ready to fulfil requests or answer prayers”. Sometimes, especially in East Asian iconography, the begging bowl is replaced by a medicine jar; in Tibetan images a myrobalan plant, thought to be a panacea-灵丹妙药, grows out of the bowl. |

药师佛 (Bhaishajya-guru Vaidurya-prabharajah),全名为“药师琉璃光王如来”。 疗治一切众生的身心之病,是药师如来的本愿,而琉璃光是他本愿所展现的特殊造型,因为他要拔除一切众生的生死苦恼、重病,所以名为“药师”。因为“药师如来”有如此清净的本愿,所以他在身相上所显现出来的,是完全透明无碍的琉璃光,他的净土世界也是如此,故名“药师琉璃光”。 |
“药师如来”不仅医治我们身体上的病痛,也医治我们智慧、悲心不圆满的心灵。因为众生一开始,无法感受其深刻的愿力,所以他先医治好众生的病痛,再医治众生的心灵。因此,这个咒语是最重要的治愈咒语 (healing mantras) 之一,它使得你从二元性的幻象中恢复和解脱,帮助你摆脱负面情绪。精神上的问题可以由此咒语治愈,让你获得非常安静、放松、易睡、温柔的感觉,并渗透到周围的空间中去。 |

1. 禅定印 (Dhyana Mudra) | |
药师法界定印就是“禅定印”(又名”三摩地印“,👆参见上图👆),与释迦牟尼佛、阿弥陀佛法界定印一样。此定印属于“体印”,是不能动的,不要在结定印时手晃动。 | |
结法:右手四指置左手四指上,表佛的四大加持众生的四大,两手拇指相抵,均归入空性――法界。以左膝托左手,掌心向上,右手同左手一般,重迭于左手之上,两拇指指端相拄。或有说定印上观药壶,药壶中纳十二大愿之妙药,来度脱众生。 | |
另说:双手结“禅定印”时,要将两手放在膝上,掌心向上,手指伸开。右手压在左手上,象征方法(右手)的完善得到智慧(左手)的完美支撑;两个拇指指尖相触,这代表”红白菩提心“两大主脉在拇指处连接,并分别传送着方法和智慧结合而生的能量。 |

2. 根本印(大精进印) | |
药师如来“用印”也是药师如来的“根本印”,亦称“药师印”(👆参见上图👆)。什么时候用?当我们感觉身体有病或不舒服的时候。“用印”是用,是可以动的。 | |
结法:双手手腕相距二、三寸,以左右手(除大拇指外共)八指,右手在左手指内侧上押左相叉,入掌令合握拳,以二大拇指并平伸,押右手食指侧中节上,勿使头屈。念完咒语时,再念诵“南无药师琉璃光如来”数遍,然后,手印应从头顶上散开。 | |
注一:内缚的左四指是众生的四大,右四指乃佛界的四大,一切病障源自四大不调,故以佛界的四大当作众生界的四大来调和之,以两拇指来回的弯曲交叉,把众生业、界四大的三病召入药壶中,成为理、智、教的三药;又内缚表月轮,二拇指为去二我,以此召请人法二空之义,此乃药师如来的“根本印”,又名为“药师印”。 | |
注二:此手印又称为“大精进印”,以及“一切无畏印、狮子冠印、文殊狮子口印”等等,能破一切宿障和不祥,可以用来修一切法⻔。念前面的“度母咒”、“文殊菩萨咒”,都可以使用这个手印。 | |
