Even reciting four or five times, just a few times, it is very powerful. It is powerful to recite or just to think of the name of the Bodhisattva. It is very, very powerful.

    Kshitigarbha is usually referred to as the Bodhisattva of the Hell beings, due to His vow to not achieve Buddhahood until all hells are vacated. He is one of the four main Bodhisattvas in East Asian Mahayana Buddhism.
    The name of Kshitigarbha translates as “the one who encompasses the earth” or “Earth Treasury” or even “Essence of the Earth”. Earth signifies hardness, stillness, stability, versatility and vastness. Also, it represents our mind which creates all dharma and accommodates all matters. Earth is the foundation on which everything grows. Store signifies profundity, subtleness, and deepness. In addition, store signifies the immeasurable treasures. His direction is south, the direction of the Earthly element. This is why he is called upon for “earthly” matters such as earthquake and hurricane/typhoon.
    Kshitigarbha is known by many names, Sanskrit: Kṣitigarbha; Chinese: Dìzàng, 地藏(王)菩萨; Tibetan: Sahi-sning-po; Japanese: Jizō Bosatsu; Korean: Chijang Posal; Mongol: Gachar-un Jiruken; English: Earth Treasury Bodhisattva (or Earth Store or Earth Womb or Earth Matrix Bodhisattva).
    Kshitigarbha helps living beings in other realms, for instance – celestial beings, humans, hungry ghosts, asuras (demons), insects, and animals. Furthermore, He is also regarded as the guardian of children and patron deity of deceased children and aborted fetuses in Japanese culture.
    He is called upon for help because he has vowed to help us now. “According to sutras preserved in the Chinese canon, Kshitigarbha has vowed to help beings realize enlightenment during the period between the parinirvana (圆寂) of Shakyamuni Buddha and the coming of Maitreya (弥勒佛).
    Kshitigarbha is depicted as a wanderer with staff — like Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings — to convey that he wanders the six realms, to help all beings. This aspect of Kshitigarbha is the “wanderer of the six realms.” Famously, he helps even beings in hell, not just on earth or other realms.
    Kshitigarbha helps living beings in other realms, for instance – celestial beings, humans, hungry ghosts, asuras (demons), insects, and animals. Furthermore, He is also regarded as the guardian of children and patron deity of deceased children and aborted fetuses in Japanese culture, where He is known as Ojizo-sama or Jizō.
    In Japan, Kshitigarbha is respectfully known as one of the most loved of all Japanese divinities. His statues are a common sight, particularly in graveyards and by roadsides. Traditionally, Kshitigarbha has been worshiped as the guardian of the souls of Mizuko, the souls of stillborn, miscarried or aborted fetuses. Firefighters are also believed to be under His protection.

- Iconography:
    Kshitigarbha is usually depicted in the standing posture (Samapada) with each foot on a multi-layered lotus pedestal. He appears in the form of a bhikshu-比丘 carrying a mendicant’s staff in his right hand. In his left hand, he cradles a cintamani-如意宝珠 of wish fulfilling jewel. The cintamani is occasionally named the Pearl Beyond Price in the East. In addition, He is sometimes portrayed wearing a crown like the one worn by Buddha Vairocana. His image is similar to that of the fictional aspect of Xuanzang-玄奘 from the classical novel Journey to the West.
- Benefits:
    The story of Kshitigarbha was first described in the Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva Purvapranidhana Sutra (地藏菩萨本愿经) , one of the most popular and important Mahayana sutras. This sutra is said to have been spoken by the Gautama Buddha towards the end of his life to the beings of the Trayastrimsa Heaven (忉利天; 三十三天) as a mark of remembrance and gratitude for his beloved mother, Maya.
    Shakyamuni Buddha says that deities, devas, nagas, demons, or humans who hear Bodhisattva Jizo’s name and thereafter praise, worship, or show obeisance to images or sutras of Bodhisattva Jizo will gain the following 7 benefits:
  •  They shall be free of all bad (negative) karma.
•  They shall quickly climb the divine stages of advancement.
•  They shall eventually achieve Buddhahood.
•  They shall experience greater willpower to do good.
•  They shall be guarded by all the Buddhas.
•  They shall remember their past experiences and lives.
•  They shall never again suffer setbacks along the Bodhi path.
    Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva, the Awakened Being of Great Vows, is often referred to as the Bodhisattva of the Hell ings, because of his vow to not achieve Buddhahood until all hells are vacated. This powerful mantra is to be used for any problems or difficulties. Reciting this mantra 108 times daily is the best tool for any problems in any situation.

•  如何持诵《地藏经》?
    《地藏经》全名叫《地藏菩萨本愿经》。据说,当人在遇到困难或灾难、严重的健康或财务问题时,或者说有重大业障需要克服之时,长期持诵《地藏经》是一种非常有益和有效的方法。要想获得更强有力的保护,每天至少要念诵四、五遍或者更多。另外,超度亡灵,也可以念诵《地藏经》。
    但是,《地藏经》的文本非常长,每天全文念诵四、五遍对于时间有限的普通人来说可能是非常困难的,这里有一个“技巧”可供参考。“Lama Zopa 仁波切” 的建议是:重点念诵《地藏经》的第二、十三章。理由是:第二章中包含了地藏菩萨在释迦牟尼佛和未来弥勒佛之间,为了“照顾”和救度阎浮提苦众生而所发的大愿;在第十三章中,释迦牟尼佛将之作为一个伟大的使命,再一次强化了地藏菩萨的大愿。
    这样一来,我们就获得了一个“简化版本”的《地藏经》,其大致内容如下:

分身集会品第二
    尔时百千万亿不可思不可议不可量不可说无量阿僧祇世界,所有地狱处分身地藏菩萨,俱来集在忉利天宫。以如来神力故,各以方面,与诸得解脱从业道出者,亦各有千万亿那由他数,共持香华,来供养佛。彼诸同来等辈,皆因地藏菩萨教化,永不退转于阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。是诸众等,久远劫来,流浪生死,六道受苦,暂无休息。以地藏菩萨广大慈悲,深誓愿故,各获果证。既至忉利,心怀踊跃,瞻仰如来,目不暂舍。
    尔时世尊舒金色臂,摩百千万亿不可思不可议不可量不可说无量阿僧祇世界诸分身地藏菩萨摩诃萨顶,而作是言:吾于五浊恶世,教化如是刚强众生,令心调伏,舍邪归正。十有一、二,尚恶习在。吾亦分身千百亿,广设方便。或有利根,闻即信受。或有善果,勤劝成就。或有暗钝,久化方归。或有业重,不生敬仰。如是等辈众生,各各差别,分身度脱。或现男子身,或现女人身,或现天龙身,或现神鬼身,或现山林川原、河池泉井,利及于人,悉皆度脱。或现天帝身,或现梵王身,或现转轮王身,或现居士身,或现国王身,或现宰辅身,或现官属身,或现比丘、比丘尼、优婆塞、优婆夷身,乃至声闻、罗汉、辟支佛、菩萨等身,而以化度。非但佛身独现其前。
    汝观吾累劫勤苦,度脱如是等难化刚强罪苦众生。其有未调伏者,随业报应,若堕恶趣,受大苦时,汝当忆念吾在忉利天宫殷勤付嘱,令娑婆世界至弥勒出世已来众生,悉使解脱,永离诸苦,遇佛授记。
    尔时诸世界分身地藏菩萨,共复一形,涕泪哀恋,白其佛言:我从久远劫来,蒙佛接引,使获不可思议神力,具大智慧。我所分身,遍满百千万亿恒河沙世界。每一世界,化百千万亿身。每一身,度百千万亿人。令归敬三宝,永离生死,至涅槃乐。但于佛法中所为善事,一毛一渧、一沙一尘,或毫发许,我渐度脱,使获大利。唯愿世尊,不以后世恶业众生为虑。如是三白佛言:唯愿世尊,不以后世恶业众生为虑。
    尔时佛赞地藏菩萨言:善哉善哉!吾助汝喜,汝能成就久远劫来发弘誓愿,广度将毕,即证菩提。

嘱累人天品第十三
    尔时世尊举金色臂,又摩地藏菩萨摩诃萨顶,而作是言:地藏!地藏!汝之神力不可思议,汝之慈悲不可思议,汝之智慧不可思议,汝之辩才不可思议。正使十方诸佛赞叹宣说汝之不思议事,千万劫中不能得尽。地藏!地藏!记吾今日在忉利天中,于百千万亿不可说不可说一切诸佛菩萨、天龙八部大会之中,再以人天诸众生等,未出三界,在火宅中者,付嘱于汝,无令是诸众生,堕恶趣中一日一夜。何况更落五无间及阿鼻地狱,动经千万亿劫,无有出期。
    地藏,是南阎浮提众生,志性无定,习恶者多。纵发善心,须臾即退。若遇恶缘,念念增长。以是之故,吾分是形百千亿化度,随其根性而度脱之。地藏,吾今殷勤以天人众,付嘱于汝。未来之世,若有天人,及善男子善女人,于佛法中,种少善根,一毛一尘、一沙一渧。汝以道力,拥护是人,渐修无上,勿令退失。
    复次地藏,未来世中,若天若人,随业报应,落在恶趣。临堕趣中,或至门首,是诸众生,若能念得一佛名、一菩萨名、一句一偈大乘经典。是诸众生,汝以神力,方便救拔,于是人所,现无边身,为碎地狱,遣令生天,受胜妙乐。
    尔时世尊而说偈言:
    现在未来天人众,吾今殷勤付嘱汝,
    以大神通方便度,勿令堕在诸恶趣。
    尔时地藏菩萨摩诃萨,胡跪合掌,白佛言:世尊!唯愿世尊,不以为虑!未来世中,若有善男子善女人,于佛法中,一念恭敬。我亦百千方便,度脱是人,于生死中,速得解脱。何况闻诸善事,念念修行,自然于无上道,永不退转。

地藏本誓,校量经因,癃残喑哑是前生,今世讽大乘,福利无穷,决定宝莲生。

自皈依佛,当愿众生,体解大道,发无上心。
自皈依法,当愿众生,深入经藏,智慧如海。
自皈依僧,当愿众生,统理大众,一切无碍。

愿以此功德,庄严佛净土,上报四重恩,下济三涂苦。
若有见闻者,悉发菩提心,尽此一报身,同生极乐国。

•  《地藏经》持诵功德
    《地藏十轮经》卷一:“诸大菩萨所,于万劫中,至心皈依,称名念诵,礼拜供养求诸所愿。不如有人于一食顷,至心皈依,称名念诵,礼拜供养地藏菩萨,求诸所愿,悉得满足...... 如如意宝,亦如伏藏。”
    《地藏十轮经》:“若至诚皈依文殊、弥勒等诸大菩萨,称其名号,礼拜供养,求己所愿,求健康,求财富,求断烦恼等。于一百劫中,求诸大菩萨,还不如有人,于一顿饭间,至心皈依地藏菩萨,称名念诵菩萨名号,虔诚敬礼地藏菩萨的功德大,若有所求,皆得圆满如愿。”
    《地藏本愿经》:释迦佛也曾说赞叹地藏菩萨的功德:“如闻是菩萨名字,或赞叹,或瞻礼,或称名或供养,乃至彩画刻镂塑漆形像,是人当得百返生于三十三天,永不堕恶道。”
    《地藏本愿经》:超越三十劫罪,生天不堕恶道,不受女身,受身尊贵端严,鬼神护卫。若人“临命终时,闻地藏菩萨名一声,历耳根者,是诸众生永不历三恶道苦。”
    修持地藏,在你未达真如实际,未入出世间三昧时,首先开显的是让你的生命犹如大地,出生无尽的宝藏。这宝藏,或许是幸福,或许是财富,或许是健康,以及一切善愿。假如发菩提心勤修解脱,地藏之本义则转为,基于菩提心而开展的无量善根和三昧海。所谓的宝藏已不是谷米宝贝,而是空性明觉,是广大的智慧神通。
    此地是心地,于心地广种菩提因,成熟三乘圣果。无地岂能见硕果?此心生一切法,一切三昧宝藏,即是地藏二字真实义。地藏法,含摄了世间、出世间法,你处在哪个阶段的发心和行持,会与哪个层面的功德法性相应。
    打开《地藏经》,首页的地藏赞即曰:“三世如来同赞叹,十方菩萨共皈依。” 这句偈赞叹地藏菩萨不仅是六道众生、声闻缘觉圣者的皈依,还是十方诸菩萨的皈依处。可见地藏菩萨是九界导师,大菩萨中的菩萨,已证入萨婆若海,功德巍巍难思,除薄伽梵无能过者。
    •  有大德开示:十方菩萨共皈依,为什么不皈依地藏呢?
    地藏功德不思议,百千万劫说不尽。
    比如高楼平地起,若无地基难牢固。
    地藏即是汝心地,清净心地是基础。
    从此心地行善法,成就菩萨与诸佛。
    菩萨之外找地藏,六道寻遍见假相。
    地藏早在心中坐,十万菩萨无错过。
    小乘声闻阿罗汉,一朝发心归地藏。
    不归地藏难成佛,不打地基难楼阁。
