| The “Om Jai Jagdish Hare” Aarti is an immensely popular Hindu religious song (prayer). It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu who is considered the highest among the trinity of Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh. Lord Vishnu is the supreme lord of the Universe. |
| The Aarti refers Lord Vishnu as “Swaami” because He is the Perfect One. He is an ocean of compassion. He resides anywhere and everywhere. Lord Vishnu is merciful and grants justice to every living being. |
| He is the remover of sorrows and difficulties from the lives of his devotees. Lord Jagdish grants good health and wealth to his devotees. | • The Writer of “Om Jai Jagdish Hare” |
| The popular Hindu religious poem “Om Jai Jagdish Hare” is the work of a famous literary figure of the 19th century Pandit Shardha Ram Phillauri. |
| Pandit Shardha Ram was a social reformer and a trendsetter in both Hindi and Punjabi literature. He was a true Hindi lover and an effective writer of his times. He wrote the popular Hindu prayer “Om Jai Jagdish Hare” in 1870 which is now sung by almost every Hindu family all over the world. |
| Shardha Ram was a poet of eternal devotion and dedication on par with Saint Tulsidas and Surdas of the Bhakti Movement. He was born in a Hindu Brahmin family at a small town Phillaur (Jalandhar) in the year 1837. |
| Some of his other notable works include Sikhan De Raj Di Vithia and Punjabi Batcheet in Gurumukhi which earned him the title of “Father of modern Punjabi prose” (现代旁遮普散文之父). |
