| Lakshmi in Sanskrit is derived from the root word "laks" and "laksa", meaning "to perceive, observe, know, understand" and "goal, aim, objective" respectively. These roots give Lakshmi the symbolism: know and understand your goal. A related term is "laksana", which means "sign, target, aim, symbol, attribute, quality, lucky mark, auspicious opportunity". |
| Shreem/Shrim is the seed sound for the principle of abundance of which the goddess Lakshmi is the personification. Maha means great and this means not only in quantity but also in quality. Abundance - that is in harmony with the divine law. Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth and prosperity – both spiritual and material. Invoking her through her name can bring tremendous creative energy. |
| The first two mantras (bija/beej mantra) has not only been used for the purpose of attracting prosperity, but also for drawing in proper friends, clearing up family misunderstandings and quarrels, and smoothing some health problems. As we all know, there are many different kinds of wealth. As you use this mantra, focus on the kind of wealth you wish to manifest in your life. |
| The third mantra is used to clear the space of unwanted energy, to create abundance. It’s useful for opening the heart to possibilities and experiences. It’s often sung at the beginning of a Lakshmi ritual as an invocation. |
